Dog Licensing

California State Law and City of South El Monte Municipal Code requires that all dogs over the age of four months be vaccinated and licensed as a rabies control measure. Dog owners who fail to comply are subject to penalties.

Funds received from dog licensing fees enable the City to pay for quality animal care and control services provided by South East Area Animal Control Authority (SEAACA).

Licensing Benefits to Dog Owners

Make sure your dog has its current license attached to its collar is your best insurance of having your pet returned to you in case he or she becomes lost or gets out of your yard. Even if your dog is microchipped, a license tag is immediately visible and doesn’t require a scanning device to read it, as a microchip does.

A license also ensures that dogs are vaccinated against rabies, a fatal disease to humans and animals.

All dog licensing is valid for one year.
